This Privacy Policy explains what data Scrollary collects, why, and what we do — and don't do — with it. Scrollary is built to need as little of your data as possible: there's no account, no email, no name, no login.

01 The Short Version

No accounts. No email or phone number collected. No contacts, photos, or location access. We don't know which apps you personally choose to block, or how you use them — that stays on your device, enforced by Apple's Screen Time frameworks. What we do store, tied to an anonymous device identifier, is your vocabulary progress (so it survives a reinstall) and basic anonymous usage events (so we can tell the app is working as intended).

02 What We Collect

  • Anonymous Device ID — a random identifier generated on your device and stored in its Keychain, used only to associate your data with your device, not with you personally.
  • Word-learning progress — which words you've seen, answered, or marked as known/unknown, and when, so your progress can be restored after a reinstall and to power the Unknown Words folder.
  • Usage events — things like a card being answered, a Screen Time budget being granted, a daily cap being hit, or a shield being applied — sent with your device ID and a timestamp, with no identifying detail about which specific apps you gated.
  • Subscription status — Apple notifies our server when a subscription starts, renews, or expires (cryptographically signed by Apple). We never see your payment details; those stay with Apple.

03 What We Don't Collect

Your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, precise location, or browsing/usage history outside the app. We don't sell your data, and we don't use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

04 Screen Time & Family Controls

Choosing which apps to gate, and enforcing the resulting "shield," happens entirely on your device through Apple's Family Controls, ManagedSettings, and DeviceActivity frameworks. Our servers never receive the identity of the apps you've selected or your Screen Time usage data — only the anonymous, app-level events described above (e.g., "a shield was applied"), with no reference to which specific apps.

05 How We Use This Data

To run the core loop (sync your word progress, calculate earned time), to understand and improve the app (aggregate, anonymous product analytics), and to keep subscriptions in sync with Apple. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles.

06 Sharing

We share data only with Apple, as required to verify subscriptions (App Store server notifications). Family Controls / Screen Time enforcement happens entirely on-device via Apple's frameworks, not through us. We don't sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with data brokers or ad networks.

07 Data Retention & Deletion

Because there's no account, we can't delete data by "closing your account." Your word progress and usage events are retained, tied to your anonymous device ID, for as long as you use the app. To request deletion, email info@gradianttech.com with your device ID (found in Settings → About) and we'll delete the associated records from our servers. Reinstalling the app generates a new device ID, so any new activity won't be linked to your previous data.

08 Children's Privacy

Scrollary is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has used Scrollary and provided data to us, contact us and we'll remove it.

09 Security

Data in transit between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.

10 International Users

Scrollary's servers may be located outside your country of residence. By using the app, you understand your anonymous, device-linked data may be processed in a different country than where you live.

11 Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete data associated with your device. Since we hold no directly identifying information, we fulfill these requests using the device ID you provide us — see § 7.

12 Changes to This Policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date above when this policy changes, and note material changes in the app where appropriate.
